Open Up Resources: 6th-8th Math

I have done it...I have found the holy grail for middle school math educators, as well as ELA! This education resource is a teachers dream. Open Up Resources is a website which provides middle school teachers with superb curricula that have been published as an open educational resource. The curriculum is compiled out of several large scale districts beta use, so they keep their information up to date and reviewed by third parties. It allows you to access as either a teacher, parent, or student; each giving a different layout of the website. As a future teacher, I signed up to view under the teacher setting, which opened me up to a plethora of content tools. This website allows you to pick which grade it is you're teaching and gives you a list of several units you may come across. Within each unit, several lesson plans are compiled up of specific learning goals, activities, activity synthesis, and a list of the standards you should be working from. They even provide you with a lesson narrative which states the purpose of the lesson and what the students should be getting out of it. Reading each broken down lesson will allow the teacher to better understand the material beforehand. Now, why should math teachers check this out? Easy, this is a step-by-step lesson plan guide. All of the hard work is done for you! Although these resources may not have every unit you are teaching, they are providing you with multiple resources and tools to help better your students' learning. Besides being a great tool for educators, they also have a setting for parents and students. This setting allows students to gain access to practice problems, explained lesson summaries, and a glossary of helpful terms.

  1. Hey Shelby! I really liked the resource you decided to use for this blog post. I think this is actually something I can see myself using as a first-year teacher. What I like about this resource is how specific the assignments get based on the specific unit and subject area. I want to try to find a resource similar to this for Social Studies.
