In the era of social media and technology ruling over our classrooms, we must find a way to use these to our advantage. Technology can be a great asset in and outside of the classroom if you know how to use it correctly. The resource I have found can be used for just that, and it's FREE! cK-12 is a learning tool that allows students to engage in online lessons, simulations, quizzes, and textbooks. CK-12 keeps content up to date so you aren't having to use old textbooks with outdated information. This resource can be used in the grade levels first through college and is suitable for any STEM or English class. This resource is great if it is used as a supplement for regular paper and pencil assignments. Since we are now in the Digital Era, I feel as if students will be more engaged and excited to learn if it is through a source of technology. To access the website the teacher (you) will create an account (for free) and it will allow you to create a different folder for each one of your classes. Each "classroom" comes with a class code, this is where the students will create their own account and join their particular class. From here the website provides online textbooks suitable for your subject and grade level, you can add textbooks, simulations, videos, quizzes, and PLIXs. Ck-12 is also a great way to track student progress. This would also be a great resource to use as homework because I think the students would rather work on online games and quizzes than answer problems on a worksheet. I am very excited to try out this website with my future classroom and I hope you guys will find it as cool and engaging as I did!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great resource! Thanks for sharing! I think it is so important for us, as future teachers, to remember to vary in the assignments we give. This resource provides a great way for students to interact with the materials in various ways. I love that it can be used for ELA or STEM. It is neat that you are also able to track student progress! This reminds me of the online resource IXL. I think many content areas can benefit from your resource and all the tools it provides.

ReplyDeleteWhat a cool resource! I thought it was good that you brought up technology and the advancement and therefore growing importance it has in our lives and our careers as teachers. I thought it was also really cool how you brought up that it was free as well, because I know that is an important and often overlooked aspect of importance. The many aspects that this resource includes, such as the ability to create multiple files for different classes, shows that this resource would help a teacher be well equipped for a better teaching career.
