Lesson Plan Reflection
After presenting our lesson plan, there were several aspects that I think we did a fine job on, as well as parts that we should have changed or altered before presenting to the class. The parts I think we did well on, were our planning process, asking the right questions, and engaging with the students. For us math teachers, it was difficult to flip our switch and use a reading strategy for our math lesson but we adapted and planned our lesson accordingly. Another aspect we "glowed" on was as we were presenting we kept the students engaged and asked a question along the way. There was also a time when a student found flaws in our problem solving and we were able to accept the mistakes that the student pointed out. A helpful tool to use during annotation is to color code what you mark. After sorting through feedback this was also a "Glow" that several people wrote down. The aspects of our presentation that we should have been altered were our layout of the worksheet and the process in which we went about annotating. Several people pointed out that the numbering on our handout was a bit confusing. This was something that we did not catch before our presentation but we now realize that the layout of the worksheet is very important to avoid any confusion. Another aspect we can work on is how we introduce annotating to our math students. We should have maybe gone into more detail of what it means to annotate, as well as make a color key beforehand to avoid confusion. Overall, I enjoyed being able to apply a reading strategy to the math curriculum. It opened up a new way to switch up the standard way of teaching math and use cross-content skills, that I will definitely use in my future lesson plans. (300 words)
