  1. I like how you all talked about the emotions that this book brought to each of you. I think it is important to make emotional connections to a book to try to learn more about yourself and about the lesson that the book is trying to teach the reader. I also like the lively discussion that you all engaged in with each other. It was good that you each would put yourselves in the character’s shoes and compared their life to your own life and how fortunate each of you truly are. Katie said something that stuck out to me. “Everyone’s normal is different.” This is an important lesson to consider when we are teachers because we will need to be able to consider everyone’s worldviews when we think about the lessons we teach and our compelling questions.
Shelby also mentioned that book clubs are good for breaking up the traditional coursework for students. They help students who are hard to reach with assignments that are problem centered. Overall, I enjoyed listening to the podcast, but I wish there was a little more discussion on how to implement book clubs in content area classes.
